The story

Four hundred years answering to somebody else’s name. Then one night they walk out, and by morning there is an army on the road behind them and a sea in front. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.

Moses lifts his hand over the water and a wind blows all night. By dawn there is a path through the sea with water standing up on either side, and a whole people walk across it. Children on shoulders, fish in the walls, the moon coming through. Not one of them gets wet.

The army follows. The wheels come off. The water comes down. Same sea, two mornings.

The verse

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. The children of Israel went into the middle of the sea on the dry ground, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand, and on their left.
